Chemical Engineer – ATO Flame Retardant Additives for Plastics
Your tasks: As a chemical engineer (m/f/d) specialising in flame retardants for plastics, you will play a central role in the development, optimisation and application of antimony trioxide (ATO) as a flame retardant additive. Your focus will be on improving the performance of ATO-based formulations, complying with applicable safety standards and actively shaping innovative technologies in the field of flame retardancy.
Development and optimisation of ATO-based flame retardant formulations for thermoplastics such as ABS and PP
Analysing synergistic effects through combination with other flame retardants (e.g. DBDPE)
Conducting laboratory-based tests to evaluate ignition behaviour, burning rate, heat release and smoke development
Development of efficient processes for the integration of ATO additives in plastics processing
Optimisation of processing parameters to ensure consistent product quality
Technology transfer from laboratory scale to industrial series production
Establishing quality control processes and ensuring compliance with international standards
Monitoring legal requirements in the area of flame retardancy and their implementation in the company
Collaboration with internal departments such as R&D, production and sales
Technical support for customers in the use of ATO-containing products
Participation in specialist events to monitor the market and exchange ideas with industry experts
Your profile:
Completed Master's degree in chemical engineering, materials science or a comparable specialisation
At least 8 years of professional experience in the development of flame retardants or plastics technology
Practical experience with analytical methods (TGA, DSC, FTIR)
Knowledge of plastics processing (extrusion, injection moulding)
Familiar with safety and environmental regulations for chemical additives
Analytical thinking and structured way of working
High quality and safety awareness
Ability to work in a team and strong communication skills
Confident in using MS Office and analysis software
Languages: English fluent (mandatory), German and Russian an advantage
